Frequently Asked Questions

Trial and Test

For basic functions, PatentMaker does not communicate any document content to our servers. Your data stays on your machine, and these functions work even without the internet. The only exception is the AI function (which is activated only if you wish, and is clearly indicated in PatentMaker as “AI Assistant”). This function uses GPT and requires that, for example, your questions about prior art documents are transferred to the Microsoft or OpenAI servers running GPT-4. Both Microsoft and OpenAI assure that this data is kept confidential, is not used to train GPT, and will not be given to any third party. This assurance is also guaranteed during the trial period.

No. Everyone from a firm can take part by creating their own trial account by sending in their requests here

If you want to try PatentMaker, you can simply click on "1-month free trial" on our website and send us a request for a test license. We will send you a test license along with a link to download the installer. After installing PatentMaker, you can immediately test all the functions that have been activated for you.

Installation and update

Installation on a terminal server such as Citrix is just as straightforward. When using the system for the first time, users must register (enter their name, law firm and, above all, their email address). This is important so that we can assign the users and activate the AI functions in a targeted manner. The licences are assigned to the email addresses. The installation by the IT department has worked smoothly for most law firms. Nevertheless, we are of course happy to answer any technical questions. Your IT colleagues can also contact us at any time.

To get the PatentMaker installer, simply click on "1-month free trial" on our website and send us a request for a test license. We will send you a test license along with a link to download the installer. After installing PatentMaker, you can immediately test all the functions that have been activated for you.

License and account

Yes.  Some users started to test PatentMaker with their private e-mail address and would like to subscribe to PatentMaker with their firm e-mail and continue to use PatentMaker. In this case, you just need to contact us (support@patentmaker.eu) and send us your new e-mail address. We will u update the existing entry in our database with the new email address. PatentMaker should continue to function as before - it should download the new license automatically next time the user starts the application.

Functionality

This could be caused by the missing fonts in the prior  art. To solve this problem, please open the prior art document with the (system default) PDF viewer and it will prompt you to install missing fonts from PDF viewer directly.

Possible reasons:
  • The AI features are not activated (AI functions are only available in the Professional and Corporate+ versions). This solve this problem, please upgrade your license plan by contacting us directly or by purchasing the suitable license here.
  • The detected state of the case requires no AI feature for the next step (e.g., no Office Action is detected).

This message appears when the GPT usage limit has been reached. To solve this problem, please upgrade your license plan or contact our team to top up your GPT balance.

This could happen if MS Word was still running during the installation of PatentMaker. To solve this problem, please make sure all Word documents are closed (you can verify this by opening your task manager) when installing PatentMaker or the PatentMaker Word Add-in in the configuration.
